Protests Rise Against G20 Conference in Toronto

Protest groups are standing against the G20 conference.

Get Off the Fence, a group which calls for

"labour activists, migrants, community groups, poor and working people, women, queer folk, disabled communities and others to join the Get of the Fence contingent as we creatively and energetically voice our discontent and stand in solidarity with labour struggle,"

and their website indicates that they protest the G20 event because:

"Corporations get bailed out, while people and the environment pay for their crisis. Global financial and environmental decisions are made by a few self-selected men and women[.]"

Other organizations protesting the G20 are listed on the site for Toronto Community Mobilization
.

One such group, the Southern Ontario Anarchist Resistance, makes the statement:

"The forces of capitalism and the state work hard to keep us complacent and in our placein the status quo. "

The Toronto Community Mobilization site states

"
The G8/G20 is meeting in Ontario from June 25-27, 2010. Toronto-based organizations of women, people of colour, indigenous peoples, the poor, the working class, queer and trans people and disabled people are organizing a people's convergence. Join us!"
